2018 Outstanding Graduate Symposium

Wednesday, May 23 – On the 22nd of May, Sias International University held a symposium for the Outstanding Graduates of the 2017/18 academic year. The symposium was held in the Banquet Hall of the Administration Building. Leaders from academic and administrative departments were present, including the Chairman of the Board, Dr. Shawn Chen,Party Secretary, Ma Jiansheng, President, Chen Sikun, Executive Vice President, Dong Qiming, Vice President, Liu Shuqin, Deputy Party Secretary, Li Huafeng, and Assistant Principal, Sun Rujian. Awards were presented to 37 outstanding graduates at the symposium. The symposium was chaired by the Deputy Director of the Academic Affairs Office, Ding Gonci.

 

The Outstanding Graduates' Symposium was opened with the playing of the Chinese national anthem. Party Secretary, Ma Jiansheng, delivered a speech and spoke of the purpose of the symposium. He said that he had 3 hopes for the students and graduates - to study diligently, enhance their abilities, and maintain a youthful and energetic drive for life. He also encouraged them to be adaptable and integrate into the work environments of their new jobs, remain humble, responsible, and work hard. He said that they should remember that they are all ambassadors of Sias wherever they go.

 

The Chairman of the Board of Sias, Dr. Shawn Chen, congratulated the graduates and spoke of Sias' upcoming 20th anniversary celebrations. He said that the opinions and suggestions of students and graduates would be channeled towards the development of Sias.

 

After this, the outstanding graduates spoke at the symposium and shared their experiences with regard to studying, life, postgraduate and employment challenges. They thanked Sias for providing them with the resources for academic excellence, and an international campus that promoted cultural activities and exchanges. Among their suggestions was the increase of courses and postgraduate classes as well as sports at Sias. They said that the importance of traditional culture and education, along with helping students plan their careers, was also important. They also encouraged the building of laboratories and research centers in collaboration with private companies.

 

Sias President, Dr. Chen Sikun, said that Sias existed for its students. Developing outstanding graduates over the years has been one of its primary goals. As the university has developed rapidly, so have students, from timid freshmen to confident outstanding graduates. Dr. Chen thanked the management and faculty of Sias for their role in the growth and development of Sias, thereby aiding in the development of students. He concluded by charging the students present to become outstanding alumni of Sias in the future.

 

Leaders of the Student Union and the Federation of Societies led the students in an oath and encouraged them to represent their alma mater well. The symposium closed with the singing of the Sias Anthem - “My Sias”.
